# Development

cBioPortal is an open source project hosted on Github. The core team will consider pull requests from any source.

The following section describes how to set up a development environment and start contributing.

Note that cBioPortal is split into a backend project (api) and a frontend project which are kept in separate repositories.

• Frontend (Typescript, React, Mobx)
• Backend (Java, Spring, MySQL, MongoDB)
